More in touch with the spirit than the literal sense, David Wampach adapts the Rite of Spring into a gripping and panting duet, in the true sense of the word. It all unfolds as if Stravinsky's score, whose overture and finale only can be heard briefly, had been "incorporated" by the dancers. Hyperventilating all the way through, they give the pace of a trance where exhilaration is as close to ecstasy as to fright. Their almost continuous panting opens disturbing spaces where our imagination travels, without ever being out of breath. Until the outcome of this cathartic ceremony, with the short film RITE which is a nice echo to the piece. A long-lasting haunting experience.
