Oona Doherty

Hope Hunt & The Ascension into Lazarus

Durée 40 min

Chorégraphie, interprétation Oona Doherty | Régie générale Sarah Gordon | Production Stephen Coulter | Performeur/DJ Rory Moore

dance - performance

Emerging from the boot of a car oozing low-frequency sound, Oona Doherty, with a gold necklace around her neck, invites us to the streets of Northern Ireland. She embodies Belfast’s anger and exhaustion and evolves among various entities with exacerbated virility.

Hope Hunt is as akin to physical theatre as to social proclamation or danced movement. From a thorough investigation, Oona Doherty was inspired by the words and body language of the young people outcasts of Belfast in order to create a gripping performance.

- Passage au blanc -

The Ascension into Lazarus, the bird of Heaven, is an attempt to deconstruct the stereotype of the concrete disadvantaged male, and raise it up into a Caravaggio bright white limbo. It looks to make the smicks, the spides, the hoods, the gypsies, the knackers, into the birds of paradise; a form of resurrection that appears through the look, movement and the possibility of self-invention.
