Come in, take a seat under the small tent set on stage. Bombed during the performance by 1916 French army, Mörtel's circus reappears a hundred years later. On her highly sensitive film, visual artist Curnier Jardin captured her ghosts. For her, they have come back, but their tricks are haunted by the memory of past events. In a carnival way, they tell their story about History, taming and madness which always fuels conflicts. As beautiful and disturbing as a work by Lynch, Pauline Curnier Jardin's film transfigures a tragic act of war into an artistic outlet with extended liberation. Fanciful and lastingly redeeming.
